Mary Breshike
Mary Breshike is a self-taught artist who has honed her pastel work through attending workshops throughout the years. "I started my art journey back in 1983 . I am a dental hygienist with my first educational degree and while waiting to take a state exam in Hawaii, I started taking classes at the Arts and Craft Center on the base. I loved learning about the masters, especially Monet."
Mary works in soft (chalk) pastels and also encaustic medium, sometimes combining the two to create fine works of art inspired by "the view right in front of me — the play of light, the rhythm of the coast, and the quiet beauty found in everyday places."
Mary associates her work mainly to realism though she says "it is fun in the encaustic work to lean more toward abstraction." Mary describes the body of her work as "My work often reflects the local scenes I love, capturing moments that feel familiar yet timeless. Through these pieces, I hope to preserve the essence of the place and create cherished memories for my collectors."
